DoorStop Server Edition
User's Guide
DoorStop Server Edition is a software-based "firewall" product
for Macintosh servers. Unlike conventional firewalls, which are
usually expensive dedicated hardware devices, DoorStop is software
which you install directly on the servers which you wish to protect.
DoorStop is significantly easier to set up and use than a hardware
firewall and provides much of the same capabilities at significantly
lower cost. With DoorStop, you can specify precisely which machines
should have access to which services, and you can keep track of
both allowed and denied access attempts to those services. DoorStop
works well with a wide range of Macintosh-based Internet servers,
including AppleShare IP, WebSTAR, and Open Door's ShareWay IP
product line. DoorStop is also available in a Personal Edition,
which is intended for use with personal machines.
DoorStop is available in two editions:
- DoorStop Server Edition has been specifically designed for servers,
such as AppleShare IP, ShareWay IP Pro, and WebSTAR.
- DoorStop Personal Edition is specifically designed for end-user
machines, especially those on intranets or full-time connections
such as cable modems and ADSL. Personal Edition has also been
designed to protect Mac OS 9's new Internet features, with unparalleled
ease of use. Also runs back to Mac OS 8.1.
This User's Guide provides details of the Server Edition of DoorStop.
A separate User's Guide is available for the Personal Edition.
