ASHLAND, OR. -- February 26, 1998-- Open Door Networks Inc. today announced that it had begun shipping the Professional Edition of its popular ShareWay IP Gateway. Introduced at MacWorld last month, the Professional Edition adds multiple server support and advanced management features to Open Door's ShareWay IP product line, and is one of the first applications to take advantage of Mac OS 8.1 and Open Transport 1.3's new "multihoming" feature.
Open Door's ShareWay IP products enable any AppleShare-compatible server to provide Macintosh file service using Internet protocols, greatly extending that server's accessibility to include intranets and the Internet. The new Professional Edition centralizes server management and provides an easy, cost-effective way to support large networks of servers. ShareWay IP Professional's new features include:
ShareWay IP Professional requires Mac OS version 7.6.1 or later and a PowerPC processor. Support for multiple servers is provided on either a multiple-IP-address ("multihoming") or multiple-IP-port basis. Multiple IP address support requires Open Transport 1.3 and Mac OS 8.1 or later. The introductory price for ShareWay IP Pro, through March 31, 1998, is $399 ($279 educational). After March 31, the price is expected to be $549. Upgrades from the Standard Edition are $199 ($149 educational) through March 31. Open Door Networks also announced that versions 1.1 of the Personal and Standard Editions of ShareWay IP were shipping. ShareWay IP Personal and Standard 1.1 provide enhancements such as the display of the number of active connections and the URL of the gateway, AppleScript support, and bug fixes. Upgrades from version 1.0 are free to registered users.
